Sodium Citrate vs. Sodium Chloride

At Saturated, we choose sodium citrate instead of sodium chloride because it simply performs better.

Sodium citrate is easier on the stomach and far less likely to cause GI distress. It also supports the TCA (citric acid or Krebs) cycle, a key pathway your body uses to produce energy from carbohydrates and fats. Intense training can drain these energy helpers, and adding citrate may help keep your metabolism running smoothly. Too much sodium chloride can actually slow this process down.

Sodium citrate also improves how your body absorbs sodium and water, and its natural buffering effect helps maintain a steady pH level—something you’ll appreciate when workouts get long or conditions get hot.

And yes, taste matters. Sodium citrate has a cleaner, milder flavor that lets our real ingredients come through. No overwhelming saltiness, and no need for artificial sweeteners or additives to mask it.

It’s simple: better tolerance, better performance, better taste—so you can train, compete, and recover with confidence.

Potassium Citrate and Magnesium Malate

Just like with sodium citrate, we reach for potassium citrate for it's ease of absorption, gentle impact on your stomach, and buffering effect.

We chose magnesium malate for the added metabolic support, energy production and potential fatigue relief. Magnesium malate is tolerated better than the other forms of magnesium that may have a laxative effect.

Real Fruit Flavors

This should be obvious, but real fruit takes like, well, real fruit. By using real fruit we can provide a simple, clean and light taste. Sure it costs more, but it tastes way better. Plus no weird aftertaste. All of our flavors have a mild and subtle taste. We didn't go overboard on the flavoring.

No Artificial Sweetners

We only use organic monk fruit to sweeten our drinks. Adding just a smidge (that's a technical term) helps bring out the flavor of our drinks and reduces the tanginess. How much is a smidge? All we use is .035g! That's such a low amount we aren't even required to disclose it or put it on the package. But we believe in letting you know every single ingredient that goes into our mix.

No Unnecessary Additives

Adding things like silicone dioxide aren't necessary. They are added to a lot of products to extend shelf life and decrease the chances of caking. We don't use any additives or preservatives. We believe the simplest solution is the best solution. Don't even get us started on sugar alcohols or "natural" ingredients. They have no place here.

About Us

Everything started in early 2024 in our kitchen. We were unhappy with the ultra high sodium content being the only choice. Every electrolyte option was trying to overstep each other with more is always better. Plus they were all using sodium chloride which can lead to GI upset. 

So we set out to create a cleaner electrolyte mix. A mix that was easier on the stomach, lighter tasting, and without the unnecessary additives or sweeteners. After a year of making our own mix and sharing it with friends, it became evident we should share it with everyone.  And Saturated Hydration was born.
